“The Role of Copper Transporters in the Brain“
Copper homeostasis is essential for the development and function of a mammalian brain. Copper deficiency and copper excess are both associated with severe pathologies, including neuronal degeneration, defects in vasculature, abnormal myelination and metabolic changes. Copper transporters play the central role in maintaining brain copper homeostasis. This seminar will focus on specific roles of the copper transporters SLC31A1, ATP7A and ATP7B and the role of choroid plexus in regulation of copper entry into the brain.
